West Invites Armenia To Join NATO;

Foolishness at it's peak. Forget Armenia can join NATO without Russian approval when Ukraine won't be able to do it. (Not to mention Turkey's Approval is also mandatory). Russia didn't need to do much to punish Armenia other than remain silent. Rest will be done by Azerbaijan.

Lets see how much the might fantasy army and ther drones will kick nato out of armenia :p: , acting though against Zangezor corridor but the same time aremnia is giving old fashion middle finger to Iron.

Russian are bleeding power and west is going to fill that power in armenia. Oooo mighty persians what is your next move?
Iran won't be happy as then there are US forces in the gulf to one side and Armenia to the other. Russia will f Armenia. It has forces there. If they withdraw Azerbaijan walks in. Iran can't do Jack. No way will Iran send ground forces to assist Armenia

This news can be misleading if misinterpreted. Armenia joining NATO anytime soon is more than improbable. At the same time, Erevan has practically always maintained relations with the west including at the military level, and including under pro-Russian administrations like the one presided over by former Prime Minister Sarkisian. Simply put, whether their government in charge tends to be more western- or more eastern-leaning, the Armenians will try not to fully alienate either camp. So from Iran's perspective, the situation won't be all too alarming for the foreseeable future.

There are many things can Iran and will certainly do if necessary, directly sending in ground forces being the least probable of all. For instance Iran could train, arm and offer bases on her soil to guerilla formations made of Armenian volunteers, to conduct daily hit and run strikes against Aliyev forces. Other options are conceivable as well.

But for this to happen, Iran's red line needs to be crossed to begin with. That is, Aliyev's troops would have to enter Armenia's Syunik province bordering Iran. And they've refrained from it to this day.

Armenia's decision to hold joint military exercises with the United States indicates a willingness to diversify its international partnerships and security relationships. This shift could be seen as a sign of Armenia seeking a more balanced approach to its foreign policy and security concerns.

Russia's concerns about Armenia's military exercise with the United States are understandable. Historically, Armenia has been closely aligned with Russia, particularly within the framework of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO). Any perceived move away from Moscow can raise eyebrows in the Kremlin, as it may impact Russia's strategic interests in the region.

This situation underscores the complex dynamics in the South Caucasus region, where countries like Armenia need to balance their relationships between Russia, NATO, and other regional actors. Geopolitical tensions in the region, including the conflict between Armenia and Azerbaijan, further complicate these relationships.

Dmitry Peskov's statement reaffirms Russia's commitment to its role in stabilizing the region. Russia considers itself an integral part of the South Caucasus, and it's likely to continue actively engaging with countries in the region to safeguard its interests.

In summary, Armenia's decision to hold joint military exercises with the United States reflects its efforts to diversify its foreign relations, which may be concerning to Russia. This situation highlights the intricate geopolitical dynamics in the South Caucasus and the need for a delicate diplomatic balance to maintain stability in the region.

can someone explain why and how Ian supports Armenia ?
Iran and Armenians have enjoyed a long history of friendship for more than 25 centuries ... In Armenia Azerbaijan dispute Iran has supported Azerbaijan to regain its lands since 90s but also it defends of integrity of international borders under international laws too .. Azerbaijan has got no right to use military force to invade Armenia lands nor Armenia does.
So Iran stance regarding this issue is very logical and base on international law, the connection between Azerbaijan and Nakhjavan already exist via Iran and Iran has expressed its willingness to expand and develop more access also Zangezor corridor could be used by them but all they want is full control of this corridor that is not acceptable even in the agreement is mentioned "Armenia shall guarantee the security of transport" ...
Instead of respecting international law these guys are threatening Iran that they would do this or that as if it would help them magically to violate the law.
Iran says it would not tolerate any change of borders.

Yes but the bit I don’t get is Azerbaijan is only one of a few country’s which has majority Shia population

And Iran is against them ?

I would have thought the political and religious alignment would trump economic one

I think Azeri lean more towards ethnicity and nationalism than religious one.

Shiaism vs Wahabbism vs Sufism not always preferred dividing factor.

Azerbaijan takes it orders from US and Turkey and supports separatists in Iran

Azerbaijan also has very good relations with Israel and other Iranian enemies
