On This Day in 1965, the 23ʳᵈ FFR, a newly raised unit with reservists filling up it's ranks, arrives at Rahim Yar Khan. commanded by LTC Mir Ijaz "Tony" Mahmood, it would recapture Sadhewala, routing the crack Indian 3ʳᵈ Grenadiers in process.
Tony was awarded the Sitara-e-Jurat.

On This Day during the winter war, the Pakistan Army's 2ⁿᵈ Armoured Brigade dashed towards Chak Pandit, through a dummy minefield, unhinging the Indian defences at Chhamb.
at 1930 hrs, Jaswant called for a general withdrawal to Tawi's east bank.

After the retreat of the 57 Infantry Brigade from Kushtia across the Ganges to Nator. belongs to 'A' Sqn of the 29 Cavalry, which successfully ambushed leading elements of the Indian 7 Mountain Brigade on 9 December.

The squadron commander, alongside a company of 18 Punjab, laid an ambush for two troops of the 45 Cavalry and the 22 Rajput at Kushtia, in a rearguard effort to buy time for the brigade's withdrawal.

It was a remarkable success; 5 tanks destroyed and a Rajput company mauled.

On This Day the Indian 14ᵗʰ Grenadiers assaults Daruchian, a feature on the east bank of the Poonch River, ahead of the Sehra village, which was defended by a company of the 29ᵗʰ Azad Kashmir Regiment. the attack failed, with staggering casualties. here's to the "SHER-E-CHAMBA".

the Grenadiers had pressed hard; all assault company commanders were casualties, and two FOOs were also killed. 52 troops were taken captive. the Pakistani company commander was also killed. in photograph, Lieutenant General Gul Hassan Khan visits the battalion post-ceasefire.

in recognition of their gallant conduct in combat, the battalion received 5 Sitara-e-Jurat. raised in November 1947, the unit had seen heavy combat in the Liberation War, while operating in the Bagh sector. awarded 2 Sher-e-Jang and 3 Mujahid-e-Hyderi; both were SJ equivalents.

Prisoners belonging to the 3/9 Gorkha Rifles and the 4 Grenadiers; both units conducted ill-fated attacks on Shakargarh in the days before ceasefire.

They suffered grievous casualties facing elements of Pakistan's 14 Para Brigade.

At 1930 hrs, on this day during the Winter War, a ceasefire came into effect along the Western Front.

The Pakistan Army in the West incurred casualties of 1405 killed and 475 missing during the 2 weeks of combat.
Clashes wouldn't end however.

LTC AR Janjua, the CO, is 3ʳᵈ from left. on the night of 25 March, he was arrested from his home by the officer on his right, MAJ Ziaur Rehman, 2IC and a former 'palta' at PMA.

Janjua was killed, with his body tied behind a jeep and dragged across the town.
 
Maj. Shafqat Baloch was commanding 17 Baloch Regiment He resisted division troops of the Indian army with just 90 men at Hudyara Drain Bank, Lahore for many hours.

He was OC of D company, 17 Punjab, while Aziz Bhatti was OC A company. 17 Baluch was originally with 11Div, Khem Kharan but it was sent to 12 Div(Grand Slam) and 2FF took its place.

ستمبر کو ہندوستان کی فخر ہند ڈویژن پٹھان کوٹ روڈ سے نیچے اتر کر موضع باجرہ گڑھی-پھلوڑہ سے ہوتا ہوا چونڈہ کی طرف ایڈوانس کرچکا تھا۔ حملہ آور کا نشانہ بننے والے شہری اور دیہاتی سرحدی علاقوں سے سیالکوٹ کا
رخ کر رہے تھے۔ گائیڈز کیولری موضوع بڈیانہ کے قریب روپ چھل تھی۔۔۔

لیفٹینٹ حسین شاہ کا ذاتی ٹینک راستے سے تقریباً 50 گز دور روپ چھل تھا۔ اور موصوف جالے کے اندر بیٹھے خون آلود آنکھوں سے یہ منظر دیکھ رہے تھے۔ اسی اثنا میں ایک نوجوان عورت جس کے سر پر دوپٹہ نہیں تھا، عجب بے چارگی کی عالم میں بھاگ رہی تھی۔ لیفٹینٹ حسین شاہ یہ دیکھ کر بے قابو ہوگئے۔۔۔


اور اپنے ٹینک عملے کے ایک فرد کو آواز دی کہ میری بہن کو راستے پر روک دو اور فوراً واپس آؤ۔ چنانچہ جوان بھاگتا ہواگیا اور اس عورت کو راستے پر روک دیا۔ اس عرصے میں موصوف نے اپنا ذاتی بستہ کھولا۔ اس میں سے ایک جوتا، سفید چادر، اپنا ناشتہ اور کچھ پیسے نکالے اور ٹینک عملے کے۔۔۔


ایک جوان سے کہا کہ میری بہن کے سر پر فوراً چادر دے دو۔ کھانا بھی اس کے حوالے کرو، اور یہ پیسے دے کر اس کو بتاؤ سڑک قریب ہے۔ وہ بھاگ کر نہ جائے، سڑک پر اس کو سواری مل جائے گی۔ جوان نے یہ تمام اشیاء پریشان حال خاتون تک پہنچائیں۔ حسین شاہ اس درد انگیز مناظر کو برداشت نہ کرسکے۔۔۔

اور ٹینک کے دوسری طرف جاکر بیٹھ گئے۔ ان کی آنکھیں سرخ تھیں اور فرط جذبات سے ان کی زبان اپنے جذبات کے اظہار سے قاصر تھی۔ دوسری صبح 11 ستمبر 1965 کو جب یونٹ کو دشمن سے نبرد آزما ہونے کا موقع ملا تو لیفٹینٹ حسین شاہ ٹینک پر سوار ہوگئے اور موت و زندگی سے بے نیاز ہوکر آگے بڑھتے۔
چلے گئے۔ یہاں تک کہ اپنی جان قربان کر کے ہمیشہ کیلئے زندہ ہو گئے۔​

Narration by Risaldar Roshan, who was the tank driver. the Kohat-born Lieutenant Hussain Shah was posthumously awarded the Sitara-e-Jurat. He was just 21.

The post was captured by 1300hrs on 2 December 1965.

23 FFR would claim 156 enemy dead along with 50 taken prisoner including an officer, at the cost of 5 dead and 15 wounded.
