New Spirit Welcomes Two Decades of DBL Indonesia Competition​

The largest student basketball league in Indonesia is about to enter a new season. Honda DBL with Coffee Good Day 2023 is about to roll. The new competition started in Surabaya as the birthplace of DBL.

Titled Honda DBL with Kopi Good Day 2023 East Java Series – North Region, it will take place on July 21-September 2, 2023. The series of DBL competitions in the country will be held in 30 cities and 22 provinces until March 2024.

The launch of the new season was marked by basketball activities with the Minister of Youth and Sports (Menpora) Dito Ariotedjo. The 32-year-old minister played basketball with the DBL Indonesia All-Star 2023 team on Friday (14/7) at the Plaza Kemenpora Field, Jakarta.

"This consistency contributes significantly to the achievement of Indonesian basketball achievements on the international stage. For this reason, Kemenpora is proud to be able to inaugurate the new season of Honda DBL with Kopi Good Day 2023-24," said Dito in his speech.

The contribution in question is the achievement of the first gold medal of the Indonesian national team at the SEA Games. The women's national team won gold at the 2023 SEA Games. Previously, the men's national team won gold at the 2022 SEA Games. A row of DBL alumni is also included in the gold-winning squad.

On the same occasion, DBL Indonesia founder and CEO Azrul Ananda also introduced the DBL Indonesia All-Star 2023 squad that just arrived from Chicago, Illinois, United States.

The women's team won the Chicago Summer Jam tournament. Not only that. Some players also received scholarship offers from several universities in Uncle Sam's country.

"Hopefully the presence of DBL in the future will pave the way for younger student athletes to get the opportunity to study in the United States," said the man who is familiarly called Aza.

As a form of support for the student athletes, the Ministry of Youth and Youth will provide certificates for the champions of each province. Dito also directed PP Perbasi so that DBL student athletes can participate in watching the 2023 FIBA World Cup event held in Jakarta starting on August 25.

"So that they can experience world-class facilities as well. We have just completed the indoor multifunction stadium. Hopefully, student athletes will be motivated to be able to appear on the world stage later," added Dito. (rag)

4 players who represent Indonesia in Chicago Summer Jam comes from South Jakarta region. Maxine was still junior highschool during this match, so in this game only three players spotted, but two of them are those getting scholarships from US Universities.
