Tempest | the UK's Next Generation Fighter | Updates & Discussions

You're being silly here chap. Cut it out and act decently.
Well I have clearly said I have nothing more to add. With all you ganging up on me and misreading everything I say, in the end I will be accused of not loving the queen. And as the British said before leaving India 'lack of affection is disaffection' and then I will be branded traitor. Long live the Queen :-)

The Tempest when it will be released - will be the most advanced 6th Gen fighter in the world - and it will only be bettered by what the Americans can come up with.

You have to look at the pedigree of BAE, Rolls Royce to understand the backing it has.

The UK does not assemble many planes in the UK, but it is an aviation heavy weight and when it comes to military technology, we are only second to the USA.

Suggest you use some common sense before start you troll posts on something you obviously have no idea about.

After Brexit the British are going alone in fighter projects too?

F35 is for the carriers

There are 3 versions of F35, each quite different.

For USAF, US Marines and then US Navy.

The F-35A conventional takeoff and landing (CTOL) is the Air Force variant. The F-35B short take-off and vertical-landing (STOVL) is the Marine Corps variant. The F-35C catapult-assisted take-off but arrested recovery (CATOBAR) is the Navy variant.

I do not think we can say that the Tempest will be beaten by the US 6th gen fighter which is due to come out before the end of this decade.

UK has just as much tech in virtually all areas that the US does such as in stealth airframe construction, radars, avionics and engines and so it will be close who gets the better plane.

The UK and USA will have the premier 6th gen fighters ahead of all the others like France-Germany and China who will trail quite a way behind.

I dont think 6 gen fighters being advertised by Tempest program and others have any significant different with current 5 gen fighters. Current 5 gen fighters will also be upgraded over time and will likely use STEALTH drone wingman as well, even KF 21/IFX is going to that direction inshaAllah

This the version the UK Navy is flying as a successor to the Harrier family on their QE class carriers

Engine will be the big difference as the current 5th generation fighters would not allow the fit of the new generation of adaptive-cycle engines that are going into the USA/UK and Chinese 6th gen fighters.

Engine can also be replaced and upgrade. GE will likely keep improving their engine which is in the class of F414.

Chinese current engine is not reliable yet, even J 31 is still using Russian engine and we dont know for sure whether J 20 has already used Chinese engine. Latest report from South Mourning Post by their defense specialist reporter show they are still using Russian engine for the order of J 20 for their Air Force.

Even if a 6th gen adaptive-cycle engine can be fitted into a 5th gen fighter it would be somewhat compromised as it would have to be designed to fit the airframe, rather than the other way round. You would have to compromise on performance in this case.

China has not brought any Russian engines for years now apart from RD-93s for the JF-17 that they jointly produce with Pakistan.

If you look at the engine nozzles of new-build J-20s they all use WS-10X series engines now.

GE will likely improve GE F 414 as it has been so far......The dimension is for medium weight fighter and they are not going to make different kind of dimension for that class for 6 gen engine, so of course it will be likely to be fit

J20 that you see is in prototype color (experiment and test phase), not yet seen on China Air Force color.

GE F414 core thrust has been pretty much pushed to the limits.

These 6th gen engines have newly designed cores that for the US fighter at least offers 20% increase in performance.

The other feature is much more fuel efficient engines and so loitering time is increased.

THis is why the Tempest Programme will succeed and why FCAS will ultimately fail - the UK has built a collaborative consortium of technology developers for the programme and incubating core technology development across multiple different projects, eg TFX and F-X.

The EU has as usual taken a protectionalist cabal approach as it does to everthing which in the age of 6th Gen fighter programmes is not gonna work.
